Softball Banquet information

The 2011 Tattnall Softball Banquet will be Wednesday, November 9th at 6pm in Trojan Hall followed by a heavy hors d'oeuvre reception in the lunchroom.

We are inviting C Team, B Team, and Varsity to celebrate three outstanding seasons.

The Booster Club will provide the meal for the players and coaches.

The cost per person (for anyone other than a player) will be $5. We will have a table set up outside of Trojan Hall. Please be ready to pay before you enter Trojan Hall. Also, please text Kyle Steele at 320-4100 with your name and how many people will be eating at the banquet (so we can give the caterer an estimate).

Discount Cards will be here very soon.

This is an Athletic Department Fundraiser. We need Softball to be at 100% participation !!!

Each Varsity player will be given 10 cards to sell at $10 per card. The way I like to do this to encourage 100% participation is to get a $100 check when I give you the 10 cards. That way EVERYBODY participates. After that you simply go sell the cards and put the money in YOUR pocket ... and you get your $100 back ... EVERYBODY WINS !!!

If you don't want to do it this way, I understand ... it just makes collection a lot cleaner.

Also, softball players / parents who sell the cards will NOT have to sell for Basketball or Track / Girls Soccer ... unless you want to.

And if you need extra cards to sell, please see Coach Whetsel.

I will let you know when the cards are in.

Thanks in advance for helping support Tattnall Athletics and all you do for Tattnall Softball. The strength and participation of our Booster Club is one of the big reasons our program is successful.

There will be a MANDATORY Varsity SB Meeting on Tuesday at 4pm in the
Locker Room. The meeting will probably last until 5pm.

We will collect ALL uniform items, bat bags, and helmets. Please have

If we win on Saturday and Loganville Christian wins on Saturday, Tattnall will travel to Loganville Christian on Tuesday, October 11th to play in Round 2 at 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm (if necessary).

If we advance to Round 2 and Pinewood beats Loganville Christian, we will play Pinewood at Tattnall on Tuesday, October 11th (because the PSAT is on Wednesday). Gametimes will be 3pm, 5pm, and 7pm (if necessary).

I have a call out to Loganville Christian to try to confirm with them on a date and times if they beat Pinewood. If they do beat Pinewood, we will travel to Loganville Christian (where we played in the First Round last season).

All that being said ... we need to take care of business this Saturday vs Sherwood at Tattnall (12pm, 2pm, 4pm).

#1 In case you didn't hear already, we won the tiebreak coin flip this
morning and receive a BYE in the 3 Way Playoff at MDS on Monday. At
6:30pm we will play the winner of the WF-Stratford game (that game
starts at 4:30pm for anyone who wants to go). THIS GUARANTEES us that
we will either be the #1 or #2 Seed from Region 2AAA which means that
we will host the First Round of the State Playoffs at TSA on Saturday,
October 8th. Times TBA.

#2 Our game with Flint River scheduled for Tuesday has been
RESCHEDULED for Wednesday at 4pm. There was a domino effect created by
our Region Tiebreaker on Monday. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you
were scheduled to work Gate / Concessions, please make that
adjustment.

#3 We need volunteers to work the concession stand in the First Round.

The games on Monday with Greater Gwinnett have been RESCHEDULED for
Wednesday at 430pm. It will be a DH. More than likely, the younger
girls will play game 1 at 430, the we will have our Senior Night
Ceremonies in between games around 615pm, and then begin the 2nd game
around 630pm.

Format: 4 Team RoundRobin + Single Elimination Bracket Play

Entry Fee: $5 Day Pass (Adults and Children)

NO PERSONAL OR TEAMCOOLERS ALLOWED !!! WATER COOLERS AND CUPSWILL BE PROVIDED IN EACH DUGOUT. Wethank you in advance for supporting our Concession Stand. It will help pay for officials for the 9games that will be played on Saturday, September 24^th.

Field / Facility Rules: ALL pregame warmup will be conductedbeyond the OF Fence (in the Baseball OF). This includes all stretching, running, throwing, ground balls, flyballs, and pitching. We encourage allteams that are about to play in the next game to enter through the double gatesin LF and be warmed up ready to play. There will be 15 minutes in between games to prep the field.

Round Robin play - Innings / Time Limit: Round Robin games will be 5 innings and havea 60 minutes timelimit (no new inning after 60 minutes). Round Robin games CAN end in a tie.

Tattnall softball team on early roll

The Tattnall Square softball team isn’t paying much attention to its perfect won-loss record, instead focusing on the big picture and the goals that lie ahead.

Still, the 19-0 record is hard to ignore.

Tattnall remained perfect Monday with a doubleheader sweep over Arlington Christian.

“It’s good being undefeated, but it’s not all about that,” Tattnall senior standout Kayla Steele said. “We just go out and play every game and try to improve every day. The ultimate goal is to win the last game, and a couple of losses here and there won’t really matter as long as we’re focused on our goals.”

One of those goals is to make it back to the GISA Class AAA semifinals. The Lady Trojans got to the semifinals last year, just missing out on playing for a championship.

That experience is a big motivating factor for the returning players.

“It was just so much fun getting to the Final Four and getting to spend all that extra time with your teammates,” Steele said. “Everybody wants to go back there and try to have a chance to play for a championship.”

If the Lady Trojans keep playing the way they have, they should be right in the mix to play for a championship.

The stellar play started early as Tattnall won the Windsor Freedom Park tournament at the start of the season, and it has continued through Monday’s sweep. Along the way, the Lady Trojans have pulled out several close wins, including tight victories over Stratford (in the Freedom Park championship), Bulloch a couple of times and Westfield.

“We’ve had some trouble beating Stratford in recent years, and I think after that, we all kind of thought this season could be really special,” Tattnall head coach Joey Hiller said. “We have a really good team, and the team dynamic is just special. There’s just something about this team. They don’t panic, and they stay loose, and that makes me stay loose in coaching them.”

Hiller pointed to a couple of games that illustrated the team’s laid-back mentality.

Tattnall beat Flint River 13-6 last week after leading 6-0 and then seeing Flint River tie the score at 6. After Flint River pulled even, Blair Smith hit a solo home run in the next inning, and that was followed by a three-run shot by Jade Moncrief.

Against Windsor, the game was tied at 2, only to see Tattnall blow it open to win 14-2.

“There is just a great team chemistry about them,” Hiller said. “They’re just a fun group, and they play good softball, too. Because of the dynamic of this team, they just never seem to get down. If they have a bad inning, they bounce right back after that. If someone is having a bad game, someone else steps up and carries us.

“They just do their thing, and they don’t seem to worried about anything that happens around them. They just seem to always find a way.”

A wonderful 10-0 start and two tournament championships !!! No one could have scripted a better start to the 2011 softball season for our Lady Trojans ...

As I sat in church at Piedmont this morning, I heard a great song that made me reflect a little on our start, and more importantly, where we go from here. The name of the song is A Mighty Fortress. And just like we discussed on day one of practice as we were "laying the foundation" of our season with fundamentals, we were also laying the strong foundation of a team chemistry centered around Christ. We talked about Matthew 7:24-27 :

²⁴ "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. ²⁵ The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. ²⁶ But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. ²⁷ The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

My challenge is for you to make Tattnall Softball that "Mighty Fortress". The lines from that Christy Nockels song that grabbed my attention this morning are:

Let's "Target the Heart" and keep our focus on Christ, honoring Him with our attitude and effort ... Just like you've done so well for 10 straight games. And remember ... it's a marathon ... not a sprint.

Bulloch Bash tournament update

Tattnall was 2-0 in Pool Play Friday, beating Robert Toombs 13-0 and
Briarwood 12-1. Advancing to the Gold Division today, Tattnall opened
this morning with wins over Westfield 2-0 and Pinewood 12-3. Tattnall

Travel arrangements were made for the Bulloch Tournament for this weekend:

Beasely (6), Whetsel (6), Gordon (3), Albright (2), and Spivey (2) are driving. This should be enough space for all the girls and their luggage.
Girls will stay together in hotel rooms (4 girls to a room).
Tournament T Shirt orders were placed for all the Varsity girls. Parents need to make a check for $15 to Tattnall Softball for the T Shirt. Tattnall will cut the check to Bulloch Academy.
Times and Locations and Format were discussed.

Times: Dismiss at 2:00, Depart at 2:15, Games Friday at 5:45pm and 7:30pm. Games Saturday at 8:30am, 10:30am, and 3:30pm
Location will be at the Georgia Southern SB Field (Stadium) on Friday and Saturday (if we are the #1 Seed from our Pool).
Format is Pool Play then Round Robin Play (Best Record and Runs Allowed determine the Champion)

We briefly discussed how well the girls did in the Freedom Park Tournament. 5-0 and Gold Division Champions. Potential for another great season.

Bulloch Tournament info update

Gametimes are still the same for Friday (5:45pm and 7:30pm) and Saturday (8:30am, 10:15am, and 3:30pm). We will play Friday at the Georgia Southern University Main Field. Saturday's location is TBA (depends on how we do Friday ... if we are the #1 seed, we will again be on the GSU Main Field).

The Georgia Southern complex is on Fair Rd. (Hwy 67) directly across from Burger King.

Directions to Georgia Southern Softball Complex:

Take I-16 East for 115.3 miles. Take Exit 116 toward Statesboro / Claxton. Turn left onto US-301 N/US-25 N/GA-73 N. Stay on this for 10.6 miles. Turn slight right onto Tillman Rd for 0.2 miles. Take the 1st right onto Fair Rd/GA-67 for 0.2 miles. You will see the Burger King and the Sports Complex across the street.

The Comfort Inn & Suites is also located on Hwy 67.

Directions from the Georgia Southern Complex to the hotel:

Take a right back onto Hwy 67 and travel 2 miles. The hotel is just past the US-301 Bypass North. If you reach Spring Hill Dr, you've gone a little too far.

Schedule change

Arlington has an unavoidable schedule conflict on August 9th. We will
be moving that Varsity game to Saturday, September 3rd at 12pm at

PRACTICE

Varsity Softball practices for Monday, July 18th thru Friday, July
22nd will be from 6pm until we are finished (probably 8pm). Players
should plan to arrive at least 20 to 30 minutes early for "early extra
work" (a good habit to create sooner rather than later). Please
remember to bring all of your softball equipment AND running shoes (we
may be indoors if we get weather or field conditions aren't good).

Saturday the 23rd is PARENT WORKDAY which begins at 8am. In lieu of
practice, ALL Varsity players are required to be there as well at 8am
SHARP. Community Service hours will be given.

Varsity practices for the following week will also be in the evening.
Exact times will be announced at the end of next week.

JV practices will begin on Monday, August 1st at 5pm.

I wanted to take this opportunity to remind all of you about the Senior Cookout that the Clays and Monks are doing for the Fall Sports/Activity Senior participants on Wednesday, August 10 starting at 6:30. We will cook hamburgers and hotdogs and let the kids swim. This will be at the Brookefield Subdivision Pool and Pavilion off of Bowman Road (Abby's and Madison's subdivision).

Please let your Seniors know.

Mr. Clay and/or I will attend picture day to extend a personal invite and give the kids some parking instructions (parking will be at a premium, so carpooling from school or from our houses will be helpful). If and when you know the time that the Senior photo for the Media Guide will be taken, please let me know.

We look forward to starting our Abby's, Madison's and their fellow Seniors' final year at Tattnall off with a bang. We hope you as head coaches, directors and sponsors will attend as well.

As promised last week, I am following up to make sure we are making progress within each team for the 2011-2012 Media Guides.   As a reminder:

·         My name is George Monk. I will be your contact for this school year's Tattnall Media Guide for all three seasons.

·         August 2, 2011 is fast approaching as the Fall Picture Day for the 2011-2012 Tattnall Media Guide and the deadline for your players, participants and their families to purchase a personal ad in the program.

·         Through each team, it is our goal to sell as many spots as possible and in fact try to sell spots for all three issues, as these folks get the best value for their dollar as they will be in all three seasonal Media Guides.

·         The Personal Ads for one issue and Personal Ads for all three issues are as follows:

Ø Personal (3 Issues) -   Whole Page: $300      Half page: $200        Quarter Page: $125

Ø Personal (1 Issue) -      Whole Page: $200      Half page: $100          Quarter Page: $50

As a side note I want to make a request on behalf of the Football Boosters.   We need to sell out the Reserved BLUE SEATS this year.

·         For those who reserved the Stadium Chairs last year at the $100.00 price, they will be on sell for $25.00 ea (we will be adding a foot rest along the footing since the chairs were raised up when installed) Coach Hester wants to thank these families for helping out on the first year costs.

·         For those who are reserving them for the 1st time this year, the first one (1) will be on sell for $50.00 with each additional chair at $35.00 ea

·         For those reserving the Concrete seating, they are still $50.00 ea

·         For All Reserved Seating! Please contact Robert Nable at (478) 935-3404 or email at nableclan@cox.net to reserve your seats! The fans who reserved them last year will be able to reserve the same seats but need to contact Robert before July 21st to guarantee your seat.

My name is George Monk. I will be your contact for this school year's Tattnall Media Guide for all three seasons.

August 2, 2011 is fast approaching as the Fall Picture Day for the 2011-2012 Tattnall Media Guide and the deadline for your players, participants and their families to purchase a personal add in the program.

I will keep this first email as brief and informative as I can:

·         The attached forms have all of the pertinent information.

·         We need your help and support to get this information out to your participants as soon as possible and of course, push the sale of the personal ads. Grade level ads split between the families have been very successful in the past.

·         We want to encourage the purchase of a full page ad for any young person and their family regardless of sport or activity, as these ads will be included in each season's media guide.   The family will have the opportunity to change their message for each addition. This is the best value and a great way to show support across sports/activities and seasons.

·         It might be a good idea to have families that are close, consider purchasing a full page together.

·         The ads can be billed as per the attached form.

·         Ms. Maebelle will be contacting the Seniors and their parents directly, so we will only need your help to remind them of the deadline.

We all recognize that times are a little tough and sometimes money is scarce but remember we push this because it is good for our young people and good for Tattnall Square Academy.

Varsity Cleats Information

The Varsity girls will be wearing the same cleat as last year (Ringor Diamond Gem SE Spike). The cost of the cleat is $78 (if you want the Pitching Toe, add $15). They are Black / White. Please contact Deeann Dooley at deeanndooley@bellsouth.net to order the cleats. If you do not know your cleat size in Ringor cleats, I would recommend trying on a pair of one of the returning Varsity players. Cleats probably need to be ordered next week to assure delivery by July 18th.

A few important items

#1 - The Softball Booster Club Meeting for next Tuesday, June 28th will be in the LIBRARY at 7pm.

#2 - Go ahead and start selling Banners !!! CLICK HERE for the 2011 Banners form. We would like for EVERY family in our program (Total of 26 families) to sell AT LEAST one New Banner (and get all of the 2010 Banners renewed). If we accomplish selling 26 new Banners, we will make $5000 (not including renewals). That's a super goal, and we thank you in advance for your hard work and dedication to our program.

#3 - Please review the 2011 Master Schedule again. We have identified JV games and denoted them as B Team or C Team. The B Team will consist of girls from the Varsity in the 8th and 9th grade as well as any 8th Graders on the JV (Sarah Beth Hankinson, Abigail Nicholson, and Sadie Chester). The C Team will consist of all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in the program.

#4 - We are working out details on Reserved Seating packages for Softball. More information will be coming soon, and / or we will be discussing it at the Softball Booster Club Meeting on the 28th at 7pm. We need EVERYONE'S support, as this is a FUNDRAISER for the Softball program.

All rooms not booked by 6-30-11 will be released and this rate will be gone.

The information on the hotel rooms for the Bulloch Tournament is:

We have a block of rooms at Comfort Inn & Suites for Friday, August 12th. The group rate is 59.00 per night (with taxes the total will be 66.08). This rate includes full hot breakfast.

The block of rooms is under Tattnall Square Academy. When each family calls they need to ask that a room be moved from this block to their name.

All rooms not booked by 6-30-11 will be released and this rate will be gone.

Subject: Softball Playoffs

As we were updating the brackets for next year recently, we noticed that the October, 2011, SAT was scheduled for Saturday, October 1. This is the one SAT date that our Heads have repeatedly (unanimous vote the last time it came before them) told us to protect, because of this being the final try for many students for early admission to many colleges (especially UGA).

Therefore, we have to move the First Round of the Softball State Playoffs. Moving this from a Saturday to a school day did not seem practical, as that would have been three missed school days out of the four days for the State Tournament.

After calling to verify site availability with Southern Pines/Dublin Laurens Co. Recreation Dept., GISA is making the following changes for the 2011 State Softball Playoffs. We are sorry if this causes problems, but we hope that discovering this problem and making these changes this early, and letting you know now will allow you to work around the difficulties.

Please make certain that all the involved personnel in your school receive these changes.

Good morning everyone…I hope I have not left anyone out.   If I did, please let me know.

Greg Clay and I, in recognition of Abby and Madison's Senior year, will be having a Fall Sports Cookout on Wednesday, August 10 at the Brookefield Subdivision Pool at 6:30 p.m.

It is our intention that ALL Seniors involved in the Fall Sports Season be invited.   We would like you as their Head Coaches/Directors/Sponsors to attend as well, if it fits your schedule.

We will have hamburgers, hotdogs and chips with some type of dessert.   Combine this with some swimming and he expect this will be a great way to kickoff everyone's Senior Year.

Please put this in your calendar and help us communicate this to the Seniors participating on your teams.   Greg and I will attend the "picture day" at the beginning of August so that we can let all of the Seniors know at one time when they have their group photo taken for the Fall Sports publication.
